The Runeseeker is one of the more interesting questlines in Path of Exile 2 because it turns campaign exploration into something bigger than following the main story. Introduced with the Runes of Aldur content, the quest follows Farrow, a mysterious Kalgurran rune expert, as players search for hidden Runestones, open sealed vaults, and gradually unlock new crafting options. For players gathering POE 2 Orbs and other resources along the way, the quest gives plenty of reasons to revisit areas carefully instead of rushing straight to the next objective.

Meeting Farrow in Clearfell

The journey begins in Clearfell, where players first meet Farrow and learn about the Tome and its rune-inscription mechanic. From there, the basic loop is easy to understand: find Runestones, interact with them, and follow the trail to hidden areas that may contain enemies, lore, or useful rewards.

What makes the questline work is the sense of discovery. You are not simply collecting items from marked locations. Each group of Runestones points toward another secret, and the crafting rewards become more valuable as the campaign progresses.

Act 1 Runestones and the Verisium Anvil

The first stage sends players looking through several familiar areas:

• Grim Tangle
• Hunting Grounds
• Ogham Farmlands

Finding the required Runestones unlocks the Lost Catacombs near the Tree of Souls in Grelwood. Completing the hidden area rewards Liquid Verisium, which opens access to the Verisium Anvil in Clearfell Encampment. This is where Runeforging Armour becomes available. Acts 2 and 3 Expand the System

The Runeseeker becomes more rewarding as the campaign moves forward. In Act 2, Runestones can be found in the following locations:

This part of the quest eventually leads to the Skull of the Titan and unlocks Runic Inscriptions. Act 3 continues the hunt through the Jungle Ruins, Venom Crypts, and Azak Bog, while the Mystic Refuge opens the way to Runeforging Unique Items. By this point, the quest feels less like a collectible chain and more like a growing crafting system. Act 4 and the Final Expedition

Act 4 turns the Runeseeker into a proper expedition. Players collect Treasure Map Pieces from several locations, including:

Once the completed map is delivered to Makoru, players can travel to Plunderer's Point, finish an Expedition encounter, and continue to the Deserted Post. Completing the final vault unlocks Ancient Runes recipes and brings the main Runeseeker journey to a close.

Runeseeker's Call and the Endgame Reward

The theme does not end with the campaign. Runeseeker's Call is a special Unique Runic Fork connected to a hidden quest and Expedition content. Players can obtain a Depleted Mana Rune, including from encounters involving Uhtred, the Stardrinker, then transform it into an Infused Mana Rune by reaching at least 10,000 maximum Mana before returning it to Farrow.

The reward is especially appealing for rune-focused builds thanks to its five sockets and its ability to greatly increase the effect of socketed Runes.
