Ultrasound Probe Disinfection Market in Europe: HAIs, Policy and Product Innovation
Between one patient and the next, an ultrasound probe has to be made safe again. That short handover is why the ultrasound probe disinfection market is on course to grow from USD 785.68 million in 2024 to USD 1,883.60 million by 2033, according to Grand View Research. As scan volumes climb and infection-control rules tighten, probe cleaning is becoming a purchasing decision worth tracking.
The global ultrasound probe disinfection market was valued at USD 785.68 million in 2024 and is estimated at USD 860.32 million in 2025. It is projected to grow at a CAGR of 10.29% from 2025 to 2033. North America leads with a 37.91% revenue share, and Asia Pacific is the fastest-growing region.
Market Size and Growth
The forecast implies the market will multiply roughly 2.4 times in under a decade. From the 2024 base, the ultrasound probe disinfection market adds more than USD 1.09 billion in annual revenue by 2033.
Growth is uneven across segments, and the segment split is where the useful story sits:
- By product: Instruments led in 2024 with a 43.12% revenue share and are also expected to grow fastest.
- By end-use: Hospitals and clinics held 43.62%, but diagnostic imaging centers are forecast to post the highest CAGR.
- By method: Intermediate-level and low-level disinfection holds the largest share today, while high-level disinfection (HLD) is expected to expand fastest from 2025 to 2033.
- By region: North America captured 37.91% of 2024 revenue, and the U.S. accounted for 67.83% of the North American total.
What the segment pattern suggests
My reading is that the market is moving on two tracks. Today's volume comes from affordable, easy-to-apply intermediate and low-level products used in busy scan rooms. The growth premium is shifting toward automated HLD instruments.
The rise of diagnostic imaging centers adds a second shift. Outpatient sites often have smaller infection-prevention teams, which likely explains why the report also expects substantial growth in outsourced disinfection services. This is an interpretation of the data, not a figure from the report.

Key Drivers and Trends
Infection burden sets the baseline
Rising healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are the core driver. The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control reports that about 4.3 million hospitalized patients across the EU and EEA are affected by HAIs each year. A February 2024 Robert Koch Institute study estimated that 400,000 to 600,000 patients in Germany contract an HAI annually, resulting in 10,000 to 20,000 deaths.
In India, MRSA prevalence ranges from 30 to 70%, according to a 2021 journal study cited in the report. That makes inadequate probe disinfection a serious risk.
More scans mean more reprocessing cycles
Every additional scan is another cleaning cycle. NHS England data shows ultrasound procedures for NHS patients in England rose from about 0.78 million in December 2022 to 0.91 million in November 2023. In Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Health reported over 170,000 noncritical surgeries in the first half of 2023, which increases the need for HLD of probes.
Regulation raises the floor
Guidance from the CDC, FDA and EU agencies shapes how hospitals reprocess probes. Australia's AS 5369:2023 stresses HLD for semi-critical reusable medical devices, including ultrasound probes. Standards like these push buyers toward standardized, traceable processes rather than ad hoc wiping.
Chemical-free UV-C is the technology story
Manufacturers are investing in chemical-free HLD. As of May 2025, more than 2,500 units of Germitec's Chronos UV-C system had been installed worldwide. In June 2025, Germitec launched Chronos Max, a 2-in-1 UV-C system for TEE probes that serves ENT and cardiology departments.
Expansion money is following the demand
Funding is helping products reach new regions. UV Smart received an EU grant in December 2024 to expand the UV Smart D45. Germitec raised USD 12 million in May 2022 and completed a USD 30 million round in February 2025 to accelerate growth in the U.S.
Asia Pacific is the fastest-growing region. China, India, Japan and South Korea are modernizing healthcare systems and adopting stricter infection control rules, which favors automated and traceable systems.

Top Industry Players
Grand View Research lists the following companies as holding the largest market share and shaping industry trends:
- ASP (Fortive)
- Nanosonics
- CIVCO Medical Solutions
- Tristel Plc
- Ecolab Inc.
Recent moves show where competition is heading. In November 2024, Nanosonics made its trophon Wireless Ultrasound Probe Holder available in the U.S. and Canada for HLD of wireless probes. In September 2022, Parker Laboratories partnered with Tristel to distribute and manufacture its disinfectant foams in the U.S. North America's lead is also tied to the regional presence of ASP (Fortive), CIVCO Medical Solutions, Ecolab and CS Medical.
Outlook
The ultrasound probe disinfection market rewards suppliers that make compliance simple, fast and provable. Watch three things through 2033: how quickly HLD overtakes routine low-level methods, how far imaging centers lean on outsourced services, and whether UV-C adoption spreads beyond North America and Europe.
